Kera & Mikey – Pre-Surgery Meds & Routine. Part 1

Kera & Mikey – Pre-Surgery Meds & Routine. Part 1

by Why Weight / Monday, 29 July 2019 / Published in Patient Stories

Prior to surgery, Kera’s Type 2 Diabetes controlled her entire life. Her A1C was an 11.5, and she took 11-12 pills every morning. Unfortunately, Kera’s medication routine didn’t end there. Every time Kera left her house, she would bring her “tackle box” with her. Her tackle box had injections, needles, alcohol swabs, glucometers, and cooling packs. It had everything Kera needed in order to stay alive while running daily errands. The severity of her condition was not lost on anyone; her children regularly asked her “Mommy, have you taken your medicine?” “Mommy, are you ok?” Kera knew this was not the way she wanted to live the rest of her life. She wanted to take care of her children, not the other way around.

After making the life-changing decision to undergo the Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy, Kera’s tackle box became a thing of the past. Change is always hard and breaking a routine is difficult to accept, but despite Kera’s wildest imagination, she no longer needs her tackle box. She lives each day to the fullest without the constant reliance on insulin or medications.
