Rachel L. Moore, MD, FACS, FASMBS
Rachel L. Moore, MD, FACS, FASMBS, graduated from the University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham in 1997, then completed her general surgery residency at Louisiana State University in 2002. She is board-certified in general surgery and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Her practice includes traditional general surgery in addition to advanced laparoscopic procedures including laparoscopic gastric bypass,laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy, laparoscopic gastric banding, and laparoscopic hernia repair.
In addition to her private practice, Dr. Moore is also the Chief of the Section of Bariatric Surgery at LSU and works at the interim Louisiana Public Hospital (Formerly University Hospital) caring for bariatric patients and teaching students and residents. Because she is one of the only female general surgeons practicing in our area, she has a special interest in women’s health and diseases that commonly affect women.
Dr. Moore is a Fellow of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (FASMBS) and serves on the Access To Care Committee as well as the National Insurance committee. She is the Louisiana State Medical Society representative to the Louisiana Health Care Commission, a division of the Department of Insurance in Baton Rouge.
Dr. Moore is the founding President of the Louisiana state chapter of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. As the immediate past-president of that organization, she is currently serving as a member-at-large on the Board. Additionally, she is the co-chair of the national ASMBS State Chapters Committee.
