Sophie Lanciers, MD, FAAP
Sophie Lanciers, MD, FAAP, is a native of Switzerland and a dual citizen of the U.S. and Belgium. A pediatrician, pediatric gastroenterologist and Obesity Specialist, Dr. Lanciers joins SSL from the University of MS Medical Center where she was Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and the Medical Director of the Pediatric Wellness and Weight Program.
After receiving a B.S. in medical sciences in 1986, Dr. Lanciers earned M.D. cum laude at the Free University of Brussels, Belgium, in 1991, where she also completed an anesthesiology and critical care residency in 1993. She then completed a research fellowship in pediatric gastroenterology at the International Institute for Infant Nutrition and Gastrointestinal Disease at Hahnemann University Hospital, Philadelphia, Pa.
Beginning in 1994, she completed pediatric residencies at Wyler Children’s Hospital at the University of Chicago, the Free University of Brussels, University Hospital Antwerp in Belgium, Louisiana State University Medical Center in New Orleans, and the Alfred I. DuPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, Del.
She became a fellow in pediatric gastroenterology at the University of Arizona Health Sciences Center, Tucson, in 2000 and at the St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children, Philadelphia, Pa., in 2001.
Beginning in 2002, she served as co-director of pediatric gastroenterology and attending pediatric gastroenterologist at Tucson Medical Center before joining the West Virginia University Health Sciences Center faculty in Morgantown in 2008 as an attending pediatric gastroenterologist and assistant professor of pediatrics. The following year, she joined the Centre Hospitalier Emile Mayrich faculty.
She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and is board-certified in pediatrics. She is also a member of The Obesity Society and a recent Diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine. An experienced researcher, she is the author or coauthor of numerous articles in peer-reviewed publications, books, presentations and abstracts. Dr. Lanciers is a Co-Investigator of multiple on-going obesity related research projects.
