Clark G. Warden

MD, FACS, FASMBS

Clark G. Warden, MD, FACS, FASMBS, a native New Orleanian, is a graduate of De La Salle High School, Tulane University School of Engineering and Tulane University School of Medicine. He completed his surgical residency at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1989. He is board certified in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care and is a Fellow of The American College of Surgeons with whom he served as the Cancer Liaison Physician for the state of Mississippi. 

He has held the position of Clinical Instructor in the Department of Surgery at Tulane University School of Medicine since 1993. He has served in many medical leadership positions on the local, state, and national level including Chairman of the Department of Surgery, Chief of Staff, President of the Mississippi Young Physicians Section and delegate to the AMA Young Physicians Section.

Dr. Warden joined the Surgical Specialists of Louisiana in 2003 after he spent 14 years in South Mississippi building the leading general surgery practice in the region. He was instrumental in the development of advanced laparoscopic surgery on the Gulf Coast, where he also developed a nationally recognized bariatric surgery program. He helped refined the laparoscopic procedure for the duodenal switch operation, for which he served as a nationwide proctor to teach the procedure to surgeons around the country. He has been active in bariatric surgery since 2000 when laparoscopic bariatric surgery became available, and currently performs all of the accepted laparoscopic bariatric procedures, including gastric bypass, gastric sleeve, gastric banding and duodenal switch, as well as the endoscopic POSE procedure. Likewise, he has had extensive experience in endoscopy and revisional bariatric surgery. He is active in the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) where he has served on the Program Committee and the Access to Care Committee. He has had the honor of presenting original research concerning revisional bariatric surgery and has made educational presentations at the ASMBS annual meetings. He is a national proctor who teaches and credentials other surgeons for the laparoscopic gastric bypass and gastric banding procedures. Dr. Warden has been inducted a Fellow of ASMBS (FASMBS) recognizing excellence in bariatric surgery and has also been designated as an ASMBS Center of Excellence Bariatric Surgeon

As an experienced general surgeon, Dr. Warden has also been recognized by his peers and in multiple publications for excellence in general surgery, which includes gallbladder surgery, hernia repairs, surgical treatment of GERD, and intestinal surgery. These recognitions include multiple listings in New Orleans Magazine Top Doctors in Surgery, Best Doctors in America, Guide To America’s Top Physicians, Guide To America’s Top Surgeons, Louisiana Life Magazine, and Northshore Living Magazine.
