FDA-Approved Medications

There are several FDA-approved medications for weight management; however, it’s important to select them based on your unique health background and how you may respond to treatment. Your treatment plan will take into account all of the approved options to ensure your plan is as effective and personalized as possible.

Current medications that are FDA-approved for weight management in adults include:

  • Phentermine (stimulant)
  • Diethylpropion (stimulant)
  • Qsymia (phentermine/topiramate combination)
  • Contrave (wellbutrin/naltrexone)

GLP-1 Medications are utilized when indicated and approved by your insurance plan. Current GLP-1 medications that we use include:

  • For patients with Type 2 Diabetes: Victoza, Trulicity, Ozempic, Mounjaro
  • For Weight management (in patients without Type 2 Diabetes): Saxenda, Wegovy, Zepbound

Additional indications for GLP-1 medications that may be covered by your insurance include:

  • Cardiovascular risk reduction in patients with prior heart disease, stroke, or peripheral vascular disease: Wegovy
  • Obstructive sleep apnea: Zepbound

Additional indications for GLP-1 medications are expected in the future, and as they are approved and covered, we will utilize as appropriate to remain on the leading edge of the medical management of the disease of obesity.
